Step by step
Your first pair of pointe shoes
A first pair is an exciting time for a young dancer, and we make the experience as special as we can. We go through the fitting step by step and explain the difference between a wrongly fitted shoe and a correctly fitted one, letting the dancer feel the difference between the two so she understands it. We also show you how to look after feet and shoes to reduce the risk of injury.
Please allow 20 to 30 minutes for a first-pair fitting. Appointments are essential.
How to prepare
Preparing for your first fitting
- Cut toenails short and straight. Do not cut them into the corners; you are more likely to get ingrown toenails in pointe shoes. If you can touch the end of your toe and feel your toenail, it is too long.
- Wear shorts, leggings or jeans. No skirts or dresses. We need you to feel comfortable being fitted.
- If you prefer to wear ballet attire, wear ballet pink convertible tights, because we need to see your feet.
Coming back
Coming back for a refit
For a refit, please make a booking and bring your previous pair of pointe shoes with you. Seeing how you are working in your current shoes tells us a lot. If your foot has changed in strength or shape, or if your current style is no longer supporting you, we need to see that to refit you correctly.
For teachers
Group fittings for dance schools
We fit groups, and dance schools send dancers to us year after year. Group fittings need to be arranged at least two weeks in advance with the teacher, so we can have a specialist in store and, where possible, your teacher there too.
